When middle class Americans see something is wrong, we can change it.

The goal of Hearthstones is to identify conditions that harm the American middle class and find ways to correct them. 

We are the majority of the workforce and the largest market for goods and services.  The consumer spending that comes from our earnings is a measure of America's economic health.  Businesses depend on us as employees and as  consumers, making us the primary source of our government’s tax revenues. 

What hurts us, hurts our country.  When we thrive, our nation thrives.  And we can make it happen, because we are also the largest block of voters. 

When we feel powerless in the face of the political and economic forces that surround us, it’s mainly because of our own silence.  Shaking our heads in baffled disbelief, and remaining absorbed in our own lives, isn’t enough.  

We can re-balance those forces, not by tolerating slogans being mouthed at us, but by speaking out, clearly and often, to focus politicians' attention where it belongs—on the health and well-being of the American middle class. 

We can insist that our elected representatives protect us as both earners and consumers by correcting the causes of our excessive health care costs, removing injustices that reduce our earnings, and stopping harmful practices in the financial services industry.
